Understanding Stock Market Research and Trading Tools
This page explains how common research tools work in general, then notes which Benzinga trading tools are publicly described. Labels show what is verified and what is general.
Stock screeners
GeneralA stock screener filters thousands of stocks by criteria: market capitalization, price-to-earnings ratio, dividend yield, sector or growth. It narrows a universe to a short list for research. It does not rate quality. A Benzinga stock screener may exist in some form on its sites; verify what is currently offered on the official pages.
Market scanners
GeneralScanners are screeners that update live, usually for intraday conditions such as unusual volume or large price moves. VerifiedBenzinga Pro lists a real-time scanner on higher-tier plans.
Financial alerts
GeneralAlerts notify you when a rule is met: a price level, a headline mentioning a ticker or a watchlist event. VerifiedBenzinga Pro lists watchlist alerts among its features.
Newsfeeds
GeneralNewsfeeds stream headlines. Their value depends on filtering by ticker, keyword and source. VerifiedBenzinga Pro describes a filterable real-time newsfeed and an audio squawk broadcast.
Research dashboards
GeneralDashboards combine quotes, news, charts and fundamentals on one screen so you can move from a headline to the numbers quickly.
Market calendars
GeneralCalendars list scheduled events: earnings, dividends, economic releases and IPOs. VerifiedBenzinga Pro includes a calendar suite.
Watchlists
GeneralA watchlist is a saved list of tickers to monitor without owning them. It is the base for alerts and filters.
Financial data platforms
GeneralData platforms supply quotes, fundamentals and history. Check whether data is real-time or delayed, and which exchanges it covers, before relying on it.
How to evaluate any trading tool
- Data: real-time or delayed? Source?
- Cost: what is included at each tier, and what renews automatically?
- Fit: will you use the feature weekly?
- Limits: charting, execution and mobile support.
